There’s just something about slicing up a lime and inserting it directly into our beer bottle or on the rim of our glass. What we always thought was merely a summer tradition can actually be something you treat yourself to all year round.

Outside of making your feel like you’re drinking your beer on vacation, adding a lime actually does a few different things. It helps to add a refreshing brightness and tanginess to your beer by its own acidic properties and citrus notes. Usually this works best with lighter lagers. But, we found that lime can also help balance out the sweetness in some beers and complement and even slightly soften some bitterness in some classically bitter beers (usually Mexican lagers).

Ok, so enough of the reasons why lime can add a little something exta to your beer of choice. Now it’s time to get into some of the best beers you can drink with a lime or two. Here’s our personal faves.

1. Corona Extra

This classic Mexican lager is light, crisp, and refreshing, making it the perfect canvas for a lime wedge. The citrus notes from the lime enhance the beer’s subtle flavors and add a burst of freshness, making it a quintessential summer drink. Personally, we drink ours all year long but it just tracks best in those sweltering summer months.

2. Modelo Especial

Modelo Especial has a slightly richer flavor profile compared to other Mexican lagers, with a hint of sweetness and a smooth finish. The lime cuts through the sweetness and complements the beer’s malty backbone, creating a well-balanced and refreshing beverage.

3. Pacifico Clara

This beer has a clean and crisp profile with a touch of malt sweetness. The lime adds a zesty brightness that elevates the beer’s refreshing qualities, making it a favorite for beach outings and barbecues.

4. Dos Equis Lager Especial

Dos Equis Lager Especial is known for its light and slightly malty flavor. Adding lime enhances the beer’s crispness and balances its mild sweetness, making it a perfect choice for hot weather and spicy foods.

5. Sol

8. Tecate

9. Landshark Lager
